The other day both Kris and I went to get our flu shots. Normally Kris does not get one but he was taking one for team Zack. We brought Zack with us so he could see the two of us getting shots and how it did not hurt and we were out of there in no time.
We had an appointment last week for Zack's flu shot but he was not feeling well so I postponed it until today. Last year he absolutely freaked out getting his shot and Kris had to carry him out of there kicking and screaming. I expected much of the same today so Kris took a little time off work to meet us there just in case.
I talked with Zack about it, reassured him that it didn't hurt and that it only felt like a pinch for just a second. I also reassured him that he would get a sticker and a lollipop at the doctors office and yes I sort of bribed him. I told him that if he could get his shot without crying and fussing he would get a special snack when we got home. I am not sure which of these things helped but he was the pillar or strength today. He sat on Kris's lap and watched the whole thing... all 2 seconds of it. He did flinch when the needle went in but he was brave. I was so proud of him.
When he got home his special treat was in ice cream sundae and believe me when I say after the past few episodes at the doctors office this kiddo of mine deserved every last drop of that ice cream! He was so brave and acted like such a big boy. (Lets hope this continues when he goes to the dentist in a few months).
