Long night

Storms scare me, tornado warnings put fear in me, tornado warnings in the middle of the night terrify me!
Last night a little after 6pm the sky was getting a bit to dark for me so I turned on the news to see what direction and how long this storm was expected to stick around. Ugh, I immediately knew it would be a long night for me. You know how you can tell the weather is really bad? You hear the weather man tell a news anchor he needs to get off the mike so he can call his family and make sure they are okay because there are reports of a tornado touching down where they are (fortunately they were in the safe areas of their church and all was fine).
Soon after Zack found out that he was sleeping in our room he actually asked to go to bed. (He never asks to sleep). A while later Kris went to bed leaving me to be fearful all alone.
Needless to say I was up until nearly 4am when things quieted down and the tornado watches and warnings were no where in sight. I am dragging, I am counting down until nap time, I am looking forward to closing my eyes and falling into a nice restful sleep.

Can someone tell me why the news anchors will tell you when you spot a tornado go to a safe place in your home blah blah blah but the next breath they are telling you to email the pictures and videos of the storm you took?

Flippin Flapjacks

"Hey Mom, let's make some flippin' flapjacks for breakfast."

"Flippin' flapjacks? How do we make that?"

"Well first of all you need 1 cup of water, second of all you need 1 cup of flour, third of all you need 1 cup flippin' flapjacks soda, Um Mom what comes after third?"

"Fourth"

"Oh yeah, fourth of all you need 2 cups or flour, Um Mom what comes after fourth?"

"Fifth"

"Fifth of all I will go pick some flowers."

"Then what do we do?"

"Then you throw them up in the air and I will catch them on a plate."

"I don't think so, we don't have any flippin' flapjacks soda and I certainly do not want food thrown around my kitchen"

"Alright then you can make me some Cheerios."

Should I be afraid he is already making up recipes using ingredients I have never heard of?

Toy Story 1 & 2

Disney released Toy Story and Toy Story 2 on Blu*Ray/DVD yesterday. I thought it would be great to get them for Zack since he has never seen the original (we have it on VHS but no way to play it). He saw a part of the second one but that DVD was all scratched up and skipping past the scratched parts he saw less than half the movie.

I was able to score them both yesterday with a great deal. If you go to Disney Rewards website and are upgrading you can print a $10 off coupon for each movie. You also get an automatic $10 off when you purchase both together. That is $30 off total. Also there was a DVD Rom game included and info to get a free movie ticket to see Toy Story 3 in the theaters this summer (one for each movie so 2 tickets free).

Before he was even done with breakfast this morning he was asking to watch them. I was hoping for a bit of quiet time to take care of my neglected coupon organizer so I let him. My child does not normally sit still for anything. He is always moving and trying to multitask. Watching the original Toy Story he sat still for most of the movie, he was quiet for most of the movie, the only time he was up when it was an exciting part and he was screaming at the TV. LOL

I am so glad I found the deal I did because we don't really buy movies anymore but I think this will allow me some quiet time occasionally.

We also purchase a watering can for him because he is bugging the tar out of me for one so we can get the seeds planted and get a flower and vegetable garden going. I am thinking this afternoon we will get that started since it is supposed to be a beautiful day.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

It's muffin tin time!

I decided I needed to get rid of some fruit before it goes bad so it was a fruit snack day.
As I was getting some in the muffin cups, I realized it was looking a lot like a rainbow so I went with that. Zack was happy to have so much fruit at one time but he was even happier to realize it was like a rainbow.
We have Red grapes, Orange slices, Yellow bananas, Green kiwi, Blueberries, and strawberry yogurt with a drop of food coloring to make it violet.

Stop on over at Muffin Tin Mom to see what other moms are doing for their little ones. Since there is no theme for this week I am excited to see what ideas all the other moms come up with. There are some very creative moms out there in blog land.

I want a do over...

You know you are not having a good day when the dozen eggs you picked up at the store do not all make it home intact. You then have to clean off everything that was in the bag with those eggs.

You know you are not having a good day when you tell your precious little boy to stay out of the red dirt because he has on one of the few pair of pants that fit him, you turn around for less than a minute and he is covered in red dirt! For those of you who don't live near red dirt, once that stuff gets in your clothes they become rags because you can not get them clean!

You know you are not having a good day when you loosen the cap on your tea then decide to shake it up because there is sediment on the bottom!

You know you are not having a good day when you give your child a slice of cheese as a snack and you forgot to take that plastic off. You look down to see him struggling to take a bite.

I know it is too late to start the day over but is to early to ask the question "Is it bed time yet?"

Sneaky Little Leprechaun ~ Updated

This morning has been a little weird to say the least. Some time in the middle of the night a sneaky little Leprechaun snuck into our house and did some crazy things.

The first thing was noticed by Zack. There was a paper shamrock in the middle of his bedroom floor. There was another at the top of the stairs and one at the bottom of the stairs, then a few leading down the hall, into the kitchen, around the pantry, into the dining room and they stopped on Zacks chair at the dining room table. There was gold on that chair too. Can you believe the Leprechaun left gold wrapped chocolate sitting in a pile on Zacks chair? Yeah, I can not believe it either!
Shortly after opening said candy, Zack asked for a cup of milk. Much to the surprise of everyone, we noticed our milk was GREEN. What did that sneaky Leprechaun do? How did he turn our milk green?
I made pancakes and eggs this morning for breakfast and somehow they turned green too! Zack was loving it. When I opened up his yogurt it started turning green as I put the spoon in so of course we had to stir it up and see what would happen. Sure enough that turned green too!

I just do not know what this day is going to bring but I sure hope it is a lucky one.

Update: That sneaky little leprechaun did it again! When I took the wraps out of the refrigerator they were green. So we had green quesadillas for lunch. Zack was thrilled they were cut into the shape of shamrocks.

Oh and Zack helped me put the ingredients into the bread maker for our rolls at dinner time. We just knew they would be nice and white but somehow the dough turned green so I guess we will be having green rolls at dinner time to go along with our corned beef. I just don't know how much more of all this we are going to be able to deal with.

Happy Saint Patricks Day!

Muffin Tin Monday.

Today is Monday, that means Zack gets his muffin tin meal that he has been looking forward to. We talked about it a few days ago and he helped decide what green foods were going to put in his tin this week. Green or St. Patty's day is the theme of the week.

We opted for cucumbers, a green salad with a splash of cheese, green Goldfish crackers, kiwi, green apples (caramel sauce is hiding underneath) and m&ms. There is also a lime jello with pineapple and lemon-lime koolaid.

What you don't see if the dipping bowl of ketchup off to the side, no meal would be complete without it :( He has never has kiwi before but now I know he loves it.

If you like what you see, go on over here to check out what other moms are putting into their muffin tins.

I do plan on doing a lot of green food on Wednesday as well so I am glad there are tons of options for green foods.

Bad Mom

I have failed as a coach.

Kris and I are very competitive toward each other. When we are playing a game of anything we trash talk to each other. It is all done in fun.

While playing soccer with Zack the other day I jokingly said "you're going down." Yeah, it came back to haunt me yesterday while we were out back playing soccer again. He set the ball down and prepared himself to kick, he looked up at me and said "Mom, watch out cause you are going down!"

I know it is not good sportsmanship so I guess I need to watch what I say and teach him to be a good sport should he ever play on a team.

Bad Mom!

Note to self: Watch what you say to your son, no matter if you are clowning around or not.

Play day

Yesterday was a beautiful day. Zack and I spent most of the day outdoors.
I packed up a lunch and off to the park we headed. It took a long time for little man to eat his lunch, he couldn't help but keep getting away from the table and trying to go catch a bird or two to share his sandwich with them.

Once the lunch was finally eaten we hit the playground.

I heard a lot of "Hey Mom, come chase me" and "Tag your it." He was having a blast.

On the see-saw with mommy.

He let go of the handle and was being bounced around.

The world is his playground.

Here he is being a rebel... climbing up a slide.

I don't know what it is about this picture but I just love it.
Once we left the park. We came home and took a nap. I don't know why but you would think with all the fresh air his nap would have been longer than normal. Not so, he slept for about 45 minutes. Certainly not enough time for me to get anything done nor to take a nap myself.

We then went out to play in the backyard. Several more hours of fresh air, running, playing soccer, picking all the weeds (oops I mean the littlest flowers) growing in the grass. By the time we went indoors for the evening, I was exhausted, he was still wired.

Why is it that whenever my kiddo has a lot of outdoor time he sleeps less and the sleep that he does get it not restful? He woke up 3 times last night, the first time when I went into his room he looked at me, hugged my neck and said "Mom, I think I need some warm milk."

A Muffin Tin Birthday!!

It's a special day in this house.
Last night a 3 year old was put to bed for the night and Bam he woke up a 4 year old! Where has the time gone?

The birthday boy woke up to a yellow muffin tin breakfast today.
We have Vanilla yogurt with some yellow m&ms, scrambled egg, peaches, banana, and rice crispy cereal.

I originally had this whole lunch planned but scrapped the whole idea in favor of going on a lunch date with my little man. Check out what other moms are doing for Muffin Tin Monday here.

We had Zacks party yesterday. A month or so ago he told me he wanted a Wall-E cake. Of course my first instinct was to go to the store an order one but we found a cake pan on sale so I decided to tackle the task myself. I am not a decorator so I had no idea how it would turn out. What do you think?

Zack seems pretty pleased with his cake.

When Ma asked Zack what he wanted for his birthday he told her a vanilla and chocolate cake so she mailed him the mix and the frosting. He was so excited to see that! (When I made his cake he requested the confetti cake mix). I don't know if he was more excited with the cake mix or the Wall-E comforter. It's the little things that make him happy.

Another new game for his Leapster2. His beloved Thomas the Train.
All in all he had a wonderful birthday party, so much so that when I went into his room this morning singing the Happy Birthday Song he asked if he could have another party today. Gosh I love this kid!

*I do want to point out, this was not the best shirt for picture taking. It looks as if it is dirty but I assure you that is the design, the shirt was perfectly clean.

Counting in Spanish

I asked Zack if he can count in Spanish.

Rolling his eyes at me, he responded with a 'yes I can'.

He proceeded to count for me...

Uno, Dos, Tres, Cuatro, Cinco, Seis, Seven-o.

At that point I lost it and just couldn't help but laugh.

Be Warned

Today I will just leave you with a quick public service announcement.

Always, always check the pockets of little boys clothing before putting them in the washer.

Fruit snacks leave a sticky mess on clothing.

You have been warned.

Muffin Tin Monday

Muffin Tin Monday at Her Cup Overfloweth

It's Muffin Tin Monday!!

I have only been doing this for a few weeks now but my little one has caught on. Whenever he sees the muffin tin come out he knows it is his special lunch. He loves it.

Of course there was one very excited little boy in this house when he came to the table for breakfast. There was no theme this week so I opted to switch up a bit and do Breakfast. I have to keep this little one on his toes.
We have a scrambled egg, banana, pineapple, english muffin with jelly and vanilla yogurt. I did throw a few sprinkles on his yogurt. I wish I had a video camera going because you would have thought it was Christmas morning seeing those sprinkles!

The excitement died down a bit and I heard "Uh Mom you forgot something". I knew what he was going to say so I cringed. I was so hoping I could get away with omitting it but NO my child had to have his ketchup. He quickly moved both bananas to the same muffin cup and told me not to worry because he made room!! I give up. LOL

If you haven't checked Muffin Tin Monday out yet head on over here.

***For those of you who commented last week on the sweet potato fries, yes they are crunchy. I let them sit in cold water for a while before baking them. It takes some of the starch out and they crisp up better.
